Ukrainian Resettlement  Project

We are four students in INTLSTD 300 passionate about creating change in our community. We hope that by sharing the Ukrainian refugee crisis and providing feasible options, that it allows students on campus tangible options to make a difference.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

After the launch of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022, Ukrainian citizens are facing a deadly human rights crisis. In an attempt to “unite” the Eastern slavic countries (Ukraine, Russia and Belarus) to reconstruct the political destiny they came from and to “protect” Ukraine from foreign manipulation by the West, Putin has sparked a full-scale invasion despite no direct military threat from Ukraine or NATO prior, sparking a campaign to reintegrate and reclaim Ukraine back into the Eastern Slavic identity (realistically, Russian dominated). Yet through this invasion, a lack of regard for civilian life in the pathways has led to mass human rights violations through the destruction of civilian infrastructure through missile strikes, causing civilian deaths and displacement. Ukrainians are left with no assistance, and are forced to leave in fear of threats of violence, forcing many to flee their homes with little to nothing on them to escape the destructive pathways of the invasion.

OUR MISSION

In efforts to help those forced to flee, we are hoping to partner with local organizations on the University of Michigan’s campus and the greater Ann Arbor/Detroit area to provide assistance to arriving Ukrainian refugees. Within their first 90 days of arrival, it is more vital for refugees to receive assistance in short-term investments of essential products, shelter and furniture, and general monetary assistance. In anticipation of 2,000+ Ukrainian refugees arriving this year, our mission will provide furniture, hygiene/essential products, and monetary assistance to arriving refugees through donations, product drives, and fundraisers. We plan to use all funds and products to thrift and refurbish furniture, create supply skits with hygiene/essential products to provide families with as they settle, and provide direct monetary donations to supplement for federal stipends that have been cut. More details of our projects are outlined on our “Projects” page!
